The P51-B is easily distinguished from the D model by the simple fact that its olive drab with a red spinner and white stripes on the wingroots. This pony gallops best between 15,000 and 20,000 feet, where it outperforms its younger sibling. The canopy is faired in, reducing visibility to the rear, making it a little riskier to fly in a crowd. Down low speed is still respectable, but the D model is faster.
Firepower is limitted to four 50 cals, making it the weakest gun set in US planes in Aces High. The B model can carry six 4.5" rockets and either two 1/2k eggs or two drop tanks, letting you choose either mud moving or high altitude patrol/escort roles. |

The P51-D Mustang gets credit for winning the air supremacy contest high over Europe in 1945, and in Aces High it gets plenty of use as well. This one is natural metal with a blue glare reduction surfaces, and has a red rudder. It performs well enough up to 10,000 feet, but then the rate of climb drops off considerably. You can use that against them when you find them getting in your way up there.
Firepower is increased with the D model to the standard six 50 cal machine guns, and now you can also throw six 5" HVAR rockets, and haul either a pair of 1k eggs or two drop tanks. |
