A Guide to Aces High Yak Models

In Aces High, the Yak tag says simply 'Yak' and leaves it up to you to visually identify the model you are dealing with. Herewith I present a quick pictorial guide to help you know your enemy (or friend):

Yak 9T
The Yak 9T isn't fast and climbs like a brick, but it has a BIG gun to knock down whatever wanders in front of it. It is recognized by the numbers beneath the cockpit and that's pretty much the only noticeable feature that makes it stand out from its sister ship, the 9U. If you see numbers, you can go nose up against this beast and then stay above it in most any respectable fighter. Don't get in a position below it where it can bring the monster gun to bear on you, or you're going to find your plane in pieces quickly.

Firepower consists of a big 37mm cannon and one heavy machine gun.

Yak 9U
With the Yak 9U you have a much faster ride that at the lower altitudes can climb right up your tail at will. It has no obvious markings, which is how you'll know what you're dealing with. The guns aren't anything really special, but they are sufficient to bring down most planes. Best advice when dealing with a Yak 9U is to kill it before it kills you. Don't try roping it.

Firepower for the 9U consists of one 20mm cannon and two heavy machine guns.
