A Guide to Aces High Zero Models

In Aces High, the Zero's tag says simply 'A6M' and leaves it up to you to visually identify the model you are dealing with. Herewith I present a quick pictorial guide to help you know your enemy (or friend):

A6m2 Zero Fighter
The Zero that arrived over Pearl Harbor quickly earned a reputation as a super plane. It was - for the time - fast, manueverable, a good climber, and well armed. In Aces High it is not so impressive, since it faces many planes that are faster, well armed and armored. The easiest way to determine the A6m2 from it's more powerful stable mate is by the paint job. It's simply white with red meatballs and a black nose. When you see one of these white marvels, just stay fast around it till you get a good shot at it (or it runs out of cannon ammo), then watch it smoke and burn.

Firepower consists of two 20mm cannons with only 60 rounds each, and two light machine guns with 680 rounds each.

A6m5b Zero Fighter
With the A6m5b you have a more powerful engine and guns. This one will run a bit faster, and handle much better at high speeds than the earlier model, so you can't dive away from it as casually and still keep your tail in one piece. You can spot this one by the darker markings more suitable for fighting over jungle terrain - green with red meatballs.

Firepower for the A6m5b consists of two 20mm cannons with 125 rounds each and one heavy machine gun.
