SCENARIO DUTIES
Recently I've been involved in flying scenarios, which (just
in case you aren't familiar with playing AW online) are recreations of
historic battles. The current scenario is Guadalcanal, where I've been
flying an A6M2 Zero fighter for the IJN, and the Allies have been knocking
our bombers down right and left.
Recently, I was chosen for a secret mission,
and along with a team of assistants infiltrated the enemy stronghold at
Henderson Field, disguised as Bob Hope's older brother. I used my
time there to gather intelligence about the Allied efforts here, and I
must say that I was very surprised at how important they consider Henderson
field to their war effort. Our high command has not yet committed
the resources the way the Allies have, and I submit proof of the intentions
of the Americans to hold this island airstrip at all costs. The following
photos will demonstrate just how serious these intentions are.
This is the Allies 'O-Club' where many secrets are passed about
freely. My associates and I were able to gather a wealth of information
here. It is incredible how loose the American tongues were around
my team. I even got one of their high ranking officers to take pictures
for me and escort me around the base!
The Americans practice very lax security around the field, and
everywhere I went I was allowed to bring my whole team, as well as my camera.
Hardly any of the Marines or Soldiers paid any attention to me, as they
were all busily giving even more classified information to my assistants.
This is the Allies most potent fighter on the Island now. Although
we were briefed that the USAAF 67th only had obsolete Bell P400 export-modified
Aircobras, it turns out that they actually had Curtis P40 aircraft capable
of high altitude action. Contrary also to our information, the Allies
have PAVED Henderson field.
If any still have any doubt about how important Guadalcanal is
to the Americans, consider the fact that even their President made a surprise
(and secret) tour of the facility. If it were not for my fortuitous
presence there, no one would ever have known about it.
Finally, before boarding the submarine for the surprisingly long
journey home (I was amazed at how long it took to get there in the first
place), I was able to get a photo of the American code names for our various
bases in the South Pacific.
If our decrypting experts can match the code names of the raids
listed with the bases that were attacked on those dates, we will be well
on the way to breaking the Allies code! This will put us years ahead
of the Americans, who may never be able to do the same with our secret
codes.
Well, this dispatch will have to suffice for now, since it is
time for us to board the Sub. I still don't understand why it takes
so many weeks for us to return from Guadalcanal to Rabaul . . .
