sce_Colony home 1 * Eureka! Our trusty colony ship finds a new world. This series of scenes resulted from my experiments in Bryce, to create a three dimensional planet with layered atmosphere, clouds, etc. Mostly, it works, but the planet lakes crisp detail, in my opinion. * 864 x 582 * (43KB)
sce_Colony home 2 * Engines off, put it in park. Looks like the new planet bears some promise. Time to break out the landing craft. * 864 x 582 * (45KB)
sce_Colony home 3 * Another angle on this scene. Here, we can barely make out the ship's name (Valiant). Looks like it's had a rough time of it, eh? The paint is scarred from years of interstellar dust scouring at it. * 864 x 582 * (33KB)
sce_Experimental 1 * My most recent scene: This is a DOGA model that I used here to experiment with UV Mapping. UV Mapping allows the application of tailored and highly customized skins to any given model. Here I experimented with a simple map. It's all hand-painted except for the glass. You can see the dragon decal over the craft's number designation on the nacelle. There are mistakes in this, but overall it proved to me that I could do it. * 1024 x 768 * (86KB)
sce_Experimental 2 * This is really more a model showcase than a scene. Here is an aft view showing some of one of the decals that I applied to the craft (the USAF symbol), as well as some other textures. * 1024 x 768 * (86KB)

sce_Experimental 3 * A better view of the decals and stencils on the paint job. I also added some lights to tone down the shadows, since the sun is above the ship and would make the shadows on the underside too dark. * 1024 x 768 * (40KB)
sce_Galactic sky * I used the shuttle from the colony ship series in this quick composition. The background sky is from my work in Photoshop. The shuttle was made in DOGA, textured in FormZ, and then layered over the background in Photoshop. * 995 x 650 * (260KB)
sce_Maiden flight * An early Bryce rendering: I began with a DOGA model of a huge spacecraft I imported into Bryce. There, I skinned it in military drab, applied the name decal, and worked in the airbase and terrains. I purposely made the composition dark, to suggest a flight at dusk. Something that big would surely draw too much attention zipping around the sky during the day. * 864 x 582 * (294KB)
sce_Ode to Joy * A quick composition suggested by a friend who angel memorabilia. I used DAZ STUDIO entirely for this one. I found the wings and armor on the 'net (sorry, can't remember what sites...), applied them to DAZ's Michael 3 figure, and added my golden sea terrain. It came together quickly. * 1024 x 768 * (397KB)
sce_Payback * This simple scene, Payback was one of two compositions that won an Honorable Mention in the DAZ Future of Digital Art contest.. I was forced to do something simple because our home was burglarized around this time and I lost my computer. This was done on a laptop. Still, it came out as I envisioned, a simple expression of joy and victory. A lot of work went into the ship above the soldier, btw. * 1120 x 834 * (55KB)

sce_Ringworld 1 * One of my latest compositions. Using the long hauler ship, I created this scene. I wanted to create something from of Larry Niven's Ringworld novels, which I enjoyed. The ringworld is simple, but I was really trying new things with this in Bryce. I used a galactic sky that I created in Photoshop, and then layered in the ringworld and the ship. The colors are pretty, I think. * 1120 x 834 * (616KB)
sce_Ringworld 2 * Our trusty hauler leaves Ringworld for its next destination. There is much detail in the ringworld, but it's not visible due to distance. Essentially, I added an earthlike terrain to the entire interior surface of the ring, with clouds and all. * 1120 x 834 * (272KB)
sce_SSCV 1 * Using the Coral Sea ship, I combined it with the galactic core background to depict this scene. I added little fighter craft to it, which are not easily visible due to size and the negative ambient lighting that I used. * 995 x 654 * (384KB)
sce_SSCV 2 * The Coral Sea heads toward the core. Some of its fighters are visible patrolling the area around the ship. One can be seen coming for a landing (center of the scene). * 995 x 654 * (365KB)
sce_SSCV 3 * A better view of the Coral Sea's landing pad (the white striped area on top). The Coral Sea is a carrier vessel, and that's why it's got its fighters flying around it. I lit the scene in purple-black light to give the impression of it being in deep space, far from home. * 995 x 654 * (385KB)
